Code editions

Which edition of each standard the calcs follow. A change to an edition is listed on Changes.

Policy

Each calc names the edition it follows under its title, and every clause in its derivation refers to that edition. The calcs follow the editions referenced by the National Building Code that the provincial building codes in force are based on, which is NBC 2020 in nearly every province. Concrete design to CSA is the exception: those calcs follow CSA A23.3-24, the edition NBC 2025 references.

A calc moves to a newer edition when the provinces adopt the code that references it. The move is checked against the new edition's text the way a new calc is, and the calc's history records it with the date. Where provinces differ, a calc for the newer edition can be published beside the older one; to ask for one, write to [email protected].
